HOW Van

Health On Wheels
In 2016 Wallowa Valley Center for Wellness was awarded a $310,000 grant from the Eastern Oregon Coordinated Care Organization and Oregon Health Authority to expand our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) program by growing our services to increase the ACT caseload by fifty percent (or 7 participants), increase staffing by adding 2.43 permanent FTE and maintain a fidelity program. With the grant, the team was also able to purchase a Sprinter van (Health on Wheels or HOW van) which allows us to serve the far reaches of the 3,152 square mile county, meeting people where they’re at who might otherwise have limited access to services. Our goal is elimination of any barriers to access mental health and medical services for all Wallowa County residents, regardless of location.
“Health on Wheels” (HOW), brings mental health, medical, dental, and holistic health alternatives to the most geographically isolated areas of our community. Both Wallowa Valley Center for Wellness and Winding Waters Clinic share the same vision bringing 100% access to the individuals of Wallowa County, and ensuring 0% disparities.

This service began as an Oregon Health Authority expansion grant to Wallowa Valley Center for Wellness’s Assertive Community Treatment program, which aims to serve mental health clients in community settings. Our partnership with Winding Waters Medical Clinic allows this vision to be expanded to include medical, dental, and holistic health care options while removing the barriers of transportation, location, and cost of service.
